GrooveTooth is a one man, one guitar act. Singer-songwriter Nik Kemmer grew up in Kensington, MD, just north of DC. He has spent much of his time pursuing music in the nation's capitol, pines of the south, great north plains, Rocky Mountains, and has landed in the Pacific Northwest. His original material brushes up on a few styles but mainly leans toward folk and bluegrass. His influences include Tallest Man on Earth, Fleet Foxes, The Wood Brother, Elephant Revival, and Trampled by Turtles. Nik also enjoys playing cover songs from many different genres and time periods.
Nik has been writing music since 2007. He recently released his first album titled, "A Shade Under Green." It is an acoustic release of ten tracks. Seven of which have lyrics and three are instrumentals. The style of this album ranges through folk, funk, acapella, Spanish classical, space rock, and introduces a genre which Nik has been calling DreamWave. The album was recorded with one voice (Nik Kemmer) and one guitar (Yamaha Classical CG-150CCE). The recordings are crisp and clean, intended to make the listener feel like they are taking in a live performance. These acoustic sessions were recorded between fall 2011 and spring 2012. This Album is now available on iTunes, Amazon, and this site's store. You can also check out video recordings of some of his work on youtube.
Wooden Sleepers is a folk tunes project based in Portland, OR. Formed by Nik Kemmer, Nolan Gordin, Philip Krug, and Amy Hakanson, this band is genuinely a group effort as all of the members write material and are multi instrumentalists. You won't help but sway and stomp your feet with their heart melting harmonies and riddled grooves. On banjo and fiddle, Amy tears the roof off with her welling melodies; Binding the beat, Grandpa Phil holds 'em all together on the bass, laying a subtle funk frenzy, while Nolan and Nik trade off mandolin and guitar, pouring with emotion for all the world's glory and sorrow.
